I particularly liked the Phoenix Asian Escorts London one. Rough Guide on Channel 5 are better then I thought but not a patch on the old Rough Guide by the BBC.

Shortly after I turned 21, I started venturing out to the bars with my friends. I had a favorite place that was really low key and most people were in their mid 20's to mid 40's. A nice mixture of folks. Plus They made a mean margarita on the rocks and they had live music on the weekends. Every Friday the same guy played. He was a pretty cool guy, he wouldn't get pissed at the drunks screaming out requests.

One night after an hour of begging him to play "Joy to the world", he finally admitted he didn't know the words. But he would play it if me and my friend would come up and sing.

I think it was more of an "Eff you, if you want to hear it, you'll sing the damn song" not a nice thing. But what he didn't know was that I have little shame even when sober. Drunk Misha, has no shame whatsoever.

So that's the night I got on stage and got the whole bar to sing "joy to the world".

Anytime I see the musician playing at another bar (b/c my bar closed down, RIP the corner), I shout at the top of my lung "Three Dog Night, play the damn frog song!" and he of course responds with "Damn it, only if you get up here and sing it with me!"

I live close to the brewery that makes Moose Drool. For me, my taste in beer tends to shift with the seasons. The colder the weather the darker the beer I prefer. The hotter the lighter.

In the shift from fall to winter I like MD just fine. It's not too light or too dark for the season. Not in on my top of list but good enough in a pinch. Especially when in a college town it's that or Pabst...

I am a fan of pale ales and have no issue chugging them down or just relaxing and enjoying one for a bit. So we have the Santa Fe Brewing Co's party box and this was the last on the list to try out. I warn you up front that this was probably their worst showing but still better than many of the beers we have tried. Here are the comments from around the tasting table:

- Smells very hoppy
- Smells like fireworks (this person could have been drunk already)
- Slight IPA smell
- No fruit type smell
- Taste kind of flat and not very hopy
- Crisp flavor
- Taste a bit like a Chang Beer (Thai Export)
- Kinda like an IPA (we repeat ourselves when we get towards the end of tasting)

So it's a light pale ale like one would expect. I was a little surprised when the numbers came in at the end though. So here are the numbers:

Adam 5.5/10 Would do it again
Jason 6/10 Would do it again
Steve 5/10 Would do it again
Marty 5/10 Would do it again
Mindy 5/10 Would do it again
Tim 6.5/10 Would do it again

This was a nice quality choice brew that wasn't to bad from around the table of testers. I think the majority of the whole thing went pretty well and most felt positive about this beer. The comments around the table were:

- Ginger aftertaste
- Citrus/flower smell
- Orange "peel" flavor
- Between an Amber and IPA for color
- A solid showing from Santa Fe Brewing

As you can see there wasn't anything radical about this beer other than an expected result. So without further comments let's get into the rating:

Adam 7.5/10 Would do it again
Jason 6/10 Would do it again
Steve 6/10 Would do it again
Marty 7/10 Would do it again
Mindy 6.5/10 Would do it again
Tim 8/10 Would do it again

I would recommend this to a friend but it's not the bees knees. I would warn that friend that he could do better in the beer world but this is not a fail.

Another brew coming from the Santa Fe Brewing Co. This particular round we did a party pack from the brew house that contained 4 of the flavors which made it easy to discover a craft brewery all in one night. So again this is around the table with Adam, Jason, Mindy, Steve, Marty, and Tim. Here are the initial comments upon pour:

- Smells ale'ish
- A bit similar to Killian's Red
- Smooth all the way through
- Great Flavor

Everyone around the table really enjoyed this and they should because the Santa Fe Brewing Co is putting out some quality beers. The ratings went as such:

Adam 8/10 Would do it again
Jason 7/10 Would do it again
Marty 8/10 Would do it again
Steve 7/10 Would do it again
Mindy 7/10 Would do it again

This test was from our big round table back in October as well. We had a good time tasting some unique brews and State Pen was amongst those. This brew came out strong and this is the comments from Adam, Jason, Mindy, Steve, Marty, and Tim.

- Nice assortment of flavors
- Hint of chocolate taste and smell
- A thick froth as expected
- Great lacing
- Very smooth
- Again taste like a hint of coffee/chocolate
- Lighter than expected/looks

This porter was really awesome. I am not a heavy porter drinker by any means but this one really was great to taste. Santa Fe Brewing Co really came out strong for this porter and I hope this hits the table again in the future. Here are the scores:

Adam 8/10 Will do it again
Jason 5/10 Will do it again
Marty 8/10 Will do it again
Steve 7/10 Will do it again
Mindy 6.5/10 Might do it again
Tim Failed to score for some reason

Don't know what happened with Tim, either I never asked or forgot to write it down but I can tell you Mindy asked for seconds on this and I can't blame her. If you like porter or can at least stomach to try it I highly recommend this if you are around NM.

Happy Camper IPA is a local brew out in Santa Fe, just about an hour or so away from where we did our taste test. Now remember just because we feel one way or the other about it doesn't mean you will feel the same.

Our taste testers for this were Adam, Jason, Mindy, Steve, Marty, and Tim. We came out strong for this taste testing session. We did this back in October so you can tell I am a bit behind in posting them, for that you will just have to get over it.

Here is how it stacked:

- Taste like pine cones and extremely hoppy
- Bitter grapefruit type after taste
- Burps are rough - taste like a taxi cab air freshener (I have eaten one before)
- Unique flavor and rough to drink at first
- 6.6% Alcohol by volume
- Keeps getting worse
- Not a "surprise your buddy" type of beer
- If in a bottle it might help
- If you don't like IPA you probably won't like this
- Reminds you of camping and accidentally eating a pine tree

Those were comments written verbatim from around the circle of testers. I try to preserve the comments as they roll off the tongue. This is a beer that perhaps is out of the range of my pallet but it is consumable. The scores were:

Adam 4/10 Might try it again
Jason 2/10 Would do it again
Mindy 1/10 Never again
Steve 3/10 Never again
Marty 2/10 Confused
Tim 4/10 Never again

I recommend to seek this one out at least once because it is down right good. To me, and only a personal opinion, I used to think beer was beer until I started doing group taste testing a while back. I am now on the assumption that the baseline of quality beer starts at Sam Adams then works its way up. Bud, Miller, and Coors are like Oscar Mayer Bologna compared to that good Bologna made from 100% beef in the case.

I guess I am of the opinon beer is beer like steak is steak. A good beer doesn't need to be "organic" just like a good cut of beef need not have that "organic" or "free range" tag applied. Would I try it...Duh? It's beer. Would I personally seek it out over my current prefered brew? That's a negative Ghost Rider.

Well I guess that would be me. 16 years in radio in multiple formats, a lifelong musician, and the guy usually sitting backstage with some various rock or metal act half drunk with a microphone and camera asking some deep questions like "So how do you approach the writing on a new song?" or as Tommy Lee and I once questioned..."Dude! It's 2010. Where the fuck is my rocket car or my transporter pad? I should be able to step on my little pad and bloopbloopbloop be sitting down drinking a beer with you doing this interview instead of on this antiquated fucking phone! Where the hell is my robot maid?"
No worries..I will not keep this on a metal only slant. You will get my thoughts on everything from the fashion of Lady Gaga...or lack there of...to the latest exploits of the Beibs...that's Justin Beiber in case you didn't know.
So tell me? Where the hell you want this section to go? What do you want to hear and see featured? What are your thoughts on music, entertainment, and the world today?
Horns up people! It's gonna be a hell of a ride!
